Since 1978, The Wax Specialists team of hair removal and skincare specialists have been helping men & women in Manchester, NH attain and maintain smooth, silky skin. Founded by Sylvie McMartin, body waxing was our forte, but as skincare options continue to evolve and change, we recognized the need for expanding our services.
We moved to our present location 150 Beech Street in Manchester in 2000, a safe residential neighborhood close to downtown, and established our brand to become hair removal and skin care specialists for men and women alike. Our 2,000 sq ft building was completely remodeled and today we’ve got 7 treatment rooms on two floors.

7 Facts: Shaving Vs. Waxing
Waxing Lasts Longer: Once you get into the routine of waxing, the hair that was growing underneath the skin can be gone for up to 6 weeks, since it’s removed at the root of the hair. Shaving (if you’re lucky) only lasts a few days until the rough stubble starts to grow in, because it only cuts off the hair shaft – which is merely the visible part of the hair at the surface of the skin.
Waxing is NOT more expensive: The amount of money spent on razors (and replacing them when they’re dull or break) out weights your visit to The Wax Specialists for some waxing TLC. When shaving, stubble grows back at a fast pace. Have you ever tried shaving stubble with a dull razor? Bad idea! Waxing saves you time, and money, in the long run!
Waxing removes dead skin cells! Not only are you removing unwanted hair, but you’re exfoliating your skin. When the wax is removed from your skin, it gently strips away dead cells and leaves a brand new layer of skin – leaving you with a smooth glow.
Waxing = no more hyper pigmentation. Incase you didn’t know, hyper pigmentation is a condition that develops when small areas of the skin become darker than the rest. They can appear on skin that has been shaved several times, and is also dependent on your skin type and health condition. This won’t happen with waxing.

With shaving, the hair is cut at the skin line, leaving behind the bulb. Hair grows back very quickly due to the stimulation of lifting the hair bulb. Increasing oils and blood circulation better nourishes the hair, which encourages it to grow faster. Shaved hair is always cut at a slant, making the hair sharp and uncomfortable. Shaved hair always grows back in coarse, sharp stubble within 24-hours.
One of the most delightful advantages of waxing is that your hair will grow back finer and slower. This is because the hair bulb is removed from below the skin’s surface. Each time a new bulb grows back at the base of your hair, it will be weaker, and at times the hair is actually discouraged from growing back. Waxed hair takes two weeks for the bulb to grow back in the follicle, and one to two weeks for the hair to grow above the skin line, leaving you hair-free for three to four weeks.
